VINELAND — Kevin J. Snyder, a Vineland fourth-grader who passed away in 2005, will be honored on Dec. 12 at the third annual “Skate for Kevin’” event.
Snyder died from atypical teretoid rhabloid tumor, a rare and malignant childhood cancer. The event will benefit the Kevin J. Snyder Memorial Foundation, which helps fund pediatric cancer research.
Jason Fulcher of Rossi Middle School is an organizer of the event and a former classmate, teammate and friend of Snyder.
“They were really good friends at Winslow Elementary School,” Chris Fulcher, Jason’s father, said. “Jason just wanted to see what else could be done, what else he could do.”
Jason, 13, and an avid hockey player, participates in open skate at Canlan Ice Sports in Vineland. He decided to organize an open skate and donate the proceeds to the foundation. The rink is donating 100 percent of the event profits to the foundation.
This is the second event held at Canlan to benefit the foundation. Last spring, the open skate hosted between 100 and 200 people and raised more than $1,000.
